Which Compound to Use to Manufacture a Lamp Housing

What Is It?

NEXXALON™ Mineral Reinforced Compound replaces some of the glass fiber reinforcement used in structural PA6 grades with mineral filler, at loadings from 15% to 40%.

How It's Manufactured

Mineral filler is dispersed into the heat-stabilized PA6 resin on a twin-screw compounding line. Mineral particles do not have the directional, fiber-like shrinkage behavior of glass fiber, which is what gives this grade its more even, isotropic shrinkage and smoother surface finish after molding.

Manufacturing Process for This Application

Lamp housings and wheel covers are injection molded from the dried, pelletized compound. Because mineral filler shrinks more uniformly than glass fiber across the part, warpage on large, flat, or curved housing shapes is easier to control than it would be with a heavily glass-reinforced equivalent.

Why Polymer Choice Matters Here

A part like a lamp housing is judged as much on visible surface quality as on strength — glass-filled PA6 can show fiber "read-through" on the surface under certain light and paint conditions, while an unfilled grade would not hold the housing's shape well under heat from the lamp itself. Mineral reinforcement is the deliberate middle ground.
