How It's Manufactured
Glass fiber is melt-compounded into PA66 resin on a twin-screw extruder at PA66's higher processing temperature relative to PA6, with screw design set to preserve fiber length through the higher-shear, higher-heat compounding pass this resin requires.
Manufacturing Process for This Application
Pulleys are injection molded from the dried, reinforced compound. A pulley running against a belt or chain generates continuous frictional heat and cyclic mechanical load at the hub and rim, so gate placement and cooling are set to avoid weld lines at the load-bearing hub.
Why Polymer Choice Matters Here
A pulley needs to hold its round profile and hub dimensions under continuous running heat and load — an unfilled polymer would gradually deform (creep) under this sustained stress, while PA66's inherently higher heat performance than PA6, combined with glass reinforcement, resists both the thermal and mechanical load simultaneously.
