Which Compound to Use to Manufacture a Terminal Strip
What Is It?
NEXXALON™ PA66 Flame Retardant Unfilled Compound is a non-halogenated FR grade rated FR-V0 and GWIT 960°C, without glass or mineral reinforcement.
How It's Manufactured
Flame retardant additives are melt-compounded into PA66 resin on a twin-screw line under controlled temperature, since PA66's higher processing temperature than PA6 makes additive thermal stability a bigger factor in getting a consistent, effective FR compound.
Manufacturing Process for This Application
Terminal strips are injection molded from the dried FR compound in thin, multi-cavity tooling, since a strip typically carries many closely-spaced terminal positions that all have to meet the same flammability rating at that specific wall thickness.
Why Polymer Choice Matters Here
A terminal strip sits directly against exposed electrical contacts across its full length, so flame retardancy is a baseline safety requirement rather than an optional upgrade — a non-FR grade, however good its other properties, is simply not an option for this application.
Why This Compound Is Suited
This grade's non-halogenated FR-V0 rating and GWIT 960°C compliance, combined with the accurate parts formability of unfilled PA66, is why it is specified for switch parts, MCB knobs, terminal blocks, and connectors — terminal strips fall directly into this application set.
Nexxa Compounds is a leading manufacturer of PA66 compounds for terminal strip applications in India, supplying some of the largest manufacturers across India and internationally.
